Interesting “Quotes”

I’ve had several people tell me that they appreciate the “missions quotes” that I put in the right column.  I thought it would be good to have a place where folks can put their own “favorite” quotes.  Of course, it doesn’t have to be on missions.  So start writing them down for everyone to enjoy.

  1. Okay, I’ll go first. This one is by Pastor Martin Niemöller from Germany.

    “In Germany, they came first for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;

    And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;

    And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;

    And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up.”

  2. Edmund Burke has said many things worth quoting. Here are a few:
    “When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.”
    “Never despair; but if you do, work on in despair.”
    “No one could make a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little.”
    “To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting.”
    And probably his most famous quote…
    “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”

  3. Here are a few that I have come across as we were traveling. We have seen many of these printed on colored paper, hanging on the walls and doors, during mission’s conferences. They really make an impact.

    “I believe that [in] each generation God has ‘called’ enough men and women to evangelize all the yet unreached tribes of the earth…
    Everywhere I go, I constantly meet with men and women who say to me, ‘When I was young, I wanted to be a missionary, but I got married instead…or some such thing. No, it is not God who does not call; it is man who will not respond!”
    Isobel Kuhn
